Critic

When I see you, I see my judge and my critic
I don't see a friend I can talk to or visit
Just someone who finds comfort in
money, luxury, prestigious friends.

The material world is all you see
money your longing and your destiny
to forever long for intrinsic worth
compete for the resources of the earth

But while you seek after the best things in life
you may be passing them by
because they are small and hardly noticed
the things that sustain life

So I know you don't notice
those things smaller than yourself
and maybe I shouldn't worry
It's all just as well

I never plan to be greater than I am
I am only me
And you are not my God
to judge who I must be.

It is my burden and my heartache
that I still value you
because your feelings are forever wrapped
in your own point of view.
