What is Gestalt? 
The mind’s ability to fill in negative space and make it mean something. 
How parts are seen as a whole.

Properties in common; similarities:
  • color
  • shape
  • texture
Abbreviated visual grammar: We communicate a lot visually,
Rules defining the visual arrangement of text. 

Create a verbal world to cause reactions in the people who read it.




















 

Discussion on gathering information

How you gather information. 

Critical thinking, analytical thinking.
Analysis is breaking the whole into smaller parts, then breaking the smaller parts until
a solution is found.

Talked about typewriters and how they create a single string of text.
No random access.  All information is presented/created in linear fashion

Object oriented design:  all attributes gathered in one place and controlling them.  Instead of recreating them over and over again, create a single type.

CSS take care of the object oriented attributes of a piece of text.

 Each font shares some characteristics in common with others.  Font characteristics are labeled and fonts are grouped according to shared characteristics.
