Discussion on Guns, Germs and Steel

each of these potential reasons for the proximate causes of neurets complex they have guns they have germs and steel, why?
well they were smart
When was the last time there was a famine in this country?

We looked at genetics and have we ever discussed 7 +/- 2?
It turns out that in all of the worst cultures in the world from the Amazon Basin to Sweden that humans can maintain in short term memory 7 +/- 2 bits of information.

How many discrete bits of information does your phone number contatin?

7 +/- 2 bits of discrete information in short term memory.

how many discrete bits of information does your phone number contain?

Somebody said 7, somebody said 10 yeah its occluded us.

There's ten digits how many discrete bits

How many digits are in a phne number?

You said 3-3-4 which is getting onto something.  801  how many discrete bits is that

3, if you're from New York, but if you're from Utah how many discrete bits is 801?

Discrete bits are made up of subbits and if you grew up in Orem 225 is where?  224?  222?

It's Orem.  It used to be, now everything's cell phones.  But it used to be and in fact where I grew up,  you'd dial just the first number, the prefix and the last four numbers.

My home phone number growing up was four 3312.  That's five discrete bits.

We treat the area code as a single bit, and the next one sometimes we treat it as a single bit, if the area code is a bit and the prefix is three bits that's four plus four is eight bits.  That's 7 +/- 2.
But if the first two are both discrete bits you're down to six and that's under 7 +/- 2.  You go to a different culture and you still have 7 +/- 2. Its just the dashes or spaces in between them are different.
If somebody asks you for a phone number in this culture an you don't want to give it to them and you don't want to  lie you give them your phone number but you put the spaces in a different  place.

My phone number is 8014892394. it won't fit into the schema cause your brain has been hardwired to conserve for yourself. It won't stick in the schema so you've got to
The point being made here, and this idea will come up in the assignment in your documents again is that peoples minds tend to be the same. That IQ is one of the hardest things to assess. Human IQ.
because its so any IQ test is so culturally dependent. and Diamond makes a good argument for human beings smartest people.  Not just New Guineans, but which New Guineans?  Hunter/gatherers, the first level of society are the most intelligent because they have to account for so much more in their environment they have to be massive generals whereas we're very siloized, we have one specific silo we're stuck to.

What are the potential reasons for disparities between cultures and one culture dominating for eradicating/annihilating another any breaks it down into possibilities and addresses each possibility what do we call that structure here's an object and why does one bunch have more than others here's a reason here's a reason his potential what are we call it when we break this object into all of these potential smaller objects

Analytical design of a document.

You have the thesis you were taught in junior high school or middle school you have a thesis and that the end of the thesis you have support points and those support points map out to What?  Topic sentences for your paragraphs that's an analytical breaking of large objects into smaller objects and going on from there OK look-up at Diamond us that hand and how he transitions from one element to the next read first two chapters of Diamond for next time

Discussion on list of topics suggested

Have you got any more known famous.  Topic ideas for term project that you wanna work which pay you will work with two other classmates on

Did we vote on all these it'll take to get deeply

Stick with Daedalus and the original problem.

Voting on the projects were working on how many vote chances to get one

Meeting for Mr. Hatch.

Discussion/read through of the proposal assignment

Split into groups/discussion of projects
