Alice was my mother's first cousin

She lived for many years as a single person
waiting for someday, for someone right for her
to come into her life.
She was older, had lived a full life and retired
and had passed into menopause
when she met someone who loved her
and wanted to be with her forever.
They thought and behaved
as though they were
of one mind and body.
They lived for each other
and for others.
They grew older and older
to the point where
they could not take care of each other.
His family took him away from her.
They returned him after he had died.
His family did not come to his funeral.
Alice stood by his coffin with tears in her eyes
and softly caressed the man she loved
for the last time in this lifetime,
saying goodbye.
She picked out a headstone
and their temple was carved on it
and their names and their
wedding, birth and death dates.
She lived on for 9 years without him.
She did everything she could think of
to earn a place in the kingdom of God.
In 2010, at the age of 91
Alice passed into the next
realm of existence
to be with the man she loves
and the angels she sought
to emulate.
