Missing

Your text goes here...
Sometimes I dream my son still loves me and will come back to see me sometime But, his grandfather stopped loving his mother. His father stopped loving his mother. And he does not love me.I a world where little love and respect still exists, I have little hope. I will always miss my children.

Some of us still suffer under the burden of illusions of what love really is and what it is about.

It is easy to wrap our dreams around someone who seems to fit into them, and so very hard to break free from those dreams or change them once we have pinned them to someone or something.

It is important to differentiate those feelings and illusions they bring from what really is and can be.

Why are there so many
songs about rainbows
And
what's on the other side
Rainbows
are visions
But
only illusions
And
rainbows have nothing to hide
So
we've been told
And
some choose to believe it
I
know they're wrong, wait and see
Some
day we'll find it
The
rainbow connection
The
lovers, the dreamers, and me

Who
said that every wish

Would be heard and answered
When wished on the morning star

Somebody thought of that
And someone believed it
And look what it's done so far

What's so amazing
That keeps us stargazing
And what do we think
we might see

Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers,
and me
All of us under its spell,
we know that it's probably magic

Have you been half asleep?
And have you heard voices?
I've heard them calling my name
Is this the sweet sound
That called the young sailors?
The voice might be one in the same
I've heard it too many times
to ignore it
It's something that I'm supposed to be
Someday we'll find it
The rainbow connection
The lovers, the dreamers and me

Blue rose

Your text goes here...
Farewell my blue rose, I always will miss you
Even though I never touched you
I never could resist you

To outside observers, Ophelia is the epitome of goodness. Like Gertrude, young Ophelia is childlike and naive. But unlike Queen Gertrude, Ophelia has good reason to be unaware of the harsh realities of life. She is very young, and has lost her mother. Her father, Polonius, and brother, Laertes, love Ophelia tremendously, and have taken great pains to shelter her. She is not involved with matters of state; she spends her days engaged in needlepoint and flower gathering. She returns the love shown to her by Polonius and Laertes tenfold, and couples it with complete and unwavering loyalty. "Her whole character is that of simple unselfish affection" (Bradley 130).

Even though her love for Hamlet is strong, she obeys her father when he tells her not to see Hamlet again or accept any letters that Hamlet writes. Her heart is pure, and when she does do something dishonest, such as tell Hamlet that her father has gone home when he is really behind the curtain, it is out of genuine fear.

Ophelia clings to the memory of Hamlet treating her with respect and tenderness, and she defends him and loves him to the very end despite his brutality. She is incapable of defending herself, but through her timid responses we see clearly her intense suffering:
Hamlet: ...I did love you once.
Ophelia: Indeed, my, lord, you made me believe so.
Hamlet: You should not have believed me...I loved you not.
Ophelia: I was the more deceived.
Her frailty and innocence work against her as she cannot cope with the unfolding of one traumatic event after another. Ophelia's darling Hamlet causes all her emotional pain throughout the play, and when his hate is responsible for her father's death, she has endured all that she is capable of enduring and goes insane. But even in her insanity she symbolizes, to everyone but Hamlet, incorruption and virtue. "In her wanderings we hear from time to time an undertone of the deepest sorrow, but never the agonized cry of fear or horror which makes madness dreadful or shocking. And the picture of her death, if our eyes grow dim in watching it, is still purely beautiful". (Bradley, Shakespearean Tragedy 132-3). The bawdy songs that she sings in front of Laertes, Gertrude, and Claudius are somber reminders that the corrupt world has taken its toll on the pure Ophelia.

The castle referred to in Shakespeare's play is Kronborg Castle in Helsinger (Elsinore). Translated to English, the word "Kronborg" literally means "Crown Fortress".  Denmark uses "crowns" for money.

Ophelia possibly drowned in the Polea River.  She wore long dresses, and, having fallen into the water, was trapped by the adhesive bond between water and natural fibers. She could not save herself.  At that point she was miserable and she gave up on living.  Rather than waste her remaining strength struggling to hold onto a life that felt too unbearable to live, she submitted herself to death and sang to help keep her courage and express her feelings through her last moments alive.

She was not mad in the sense of being socially destructive, but rather destroyed by the very feelings of devotion that endeared her to her brother and father. Hamlet destroyed the one woman most devoted to his happiness.

This morning I woke and took my son to the storehouse. There was ice on the roads and on the windshields and he had forgotten part of his uniform and we went back for it.  An ambulance was ahead of us in line at the Center Street traffic light.  We saw its lights go on and it made a right turn from the left turn lane arnd headed for the freeway.  As it turned we heard its sirens turn on.

We brought a box of stuff .

"Boulevard Of Broken Dreams"

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aaah-ah,
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line
Of the edge and where I walk alone

Read between the lines
Of what's fucked up and everything's alright
Check my vital signs
To know I'm still alive and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone

Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aaah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah

I walk alone
I walk a...

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a...

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
'Til then I walk alone...

Social menaces

Your text goes here...
Meet my step uncle. Dale Alma Duke He was murdered in his own home by Floyd Bennett Thornton Jr.

My step cousin Dale Alma Duke Jr. was the recipient of a large dose of Agent Orange during his time in Vietnam. He passed from this life just a few weeks after his father was murdered.

Floyd Bennett Thornton was shot by his wife Rebecca Lynn Withem Thornton.

My step aunt Mary Wilda Stuart Duke was the daughter of one of General Pershing's soldiers, Wade Eaton.  Wade Eaton was slow to lay claim to her and her mother married her sister's boyfriend when he stepped forward to rescue her from the wagging tongues of the community.  The marriage did not work and he left the marriage when it became too overwhelming.  When my grandmother became ill Mary's mother would come to help her through her illness. When my grandmother died leaving my grandfather with an overwhelming burden to manage, he asked Mary's mother to join her family to his and help him through the workload.  It wasn't a love match but they did what they could to make it through.

I think your efforts to maintain family ties with your son are valiant and admirable. Forced marriages generally are unworkable for couples who enter into them. It is to your credit that you made all of your payments and kept appropriate contact.

You have so many good traits worth loving you for. If I love you, what does it matter?  I want to do good things for you and be your loved one, but I can accept that you can't accept me.  I can't accept my children's father back either nor the destructive attitude he has toward me and the family.

If I had not separated from him, one or both of us would be dead. That is how bad things had become.
My father forbid me to speak to him ever again.  My ex husband uses his ability to communicate to waste time and resources for everyone he comes in contact with.

These are the Miranda rights read by police officers to people being taken into custody:
  • You have the right to remain silent and refuse to answer questions.
  • Anything you say may be used against you in a court of law.
  • You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future.
  • If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish.
  • If you decide to answer questions now without an attorney present, you will still have the right to stop answering at any time until you talk to an attorney.
  • Knowing and understanding your rights as I have explained them to you, are you willing to answer my questions without an attorney present?
My husband used to hold my mouth so I could not offer opinions while he was yelling at me.  I have taken this to mean he considers my opinions of no value and intends to continue doing just as he pleases. I always know anything I say to him, for him, against him or about him will be held against me in a court of law, but he doesn't seem to have the same restrictions and I'm tired of his influence in my life. Why should I spend all of my time thinking up things to do to him? What a waste.

I have been looking at the murder case of Dale Alma Duke and considering the circumstances of each person involved.  I think people are responsible for their actions or reactions to a situation, but I also think our society's inability to compensate for injustice is producing menaces that create more injustice. One example of social menaces is the behavior of Floyd Bennett Thornton Jr. when he murdered my step uncle, Dale Alma Duke and widowed my step aunt. Another example is the creation and use of Agent Orange, the chemical herbicide which killed my step cousin Dale Alma Duke Jr. and left his wife without a husband and his daughter without a father.

Fearless

Your text goes here...
I watched the film "Fearless" tonight.

As I went through the scenes and their meanings and symbols, I considered the place I am and the before and after.

People find their own messages in stories and movies and life experiences.  Some experiences, we wonder what is to be gained from or lost.

Fearless explores the significance of a man's life and his disconnection from life and family after an accident.

I struggle with significance in my own life, with meaning and purpose.  I know you don't want to be my meaning and purpose.  In some respects you are part of those anyway.

The Sound of Silence (Original Version from 1964)

Your text goes here...

"The Sound Of Silence"

H
ello darkness, my old friend,
I
've come to talk with you again,
B
ecause a vision softly creeping,
L
eft its seeds while I was sleeping,
A
nd the vision that was planted in my brain
S
till remainsWithin the sound of silence.
I
n restless dreams I walked alone
N
arrow streets of cobblestone,
'
Neath the halo of a street lamp,
I
turned my collar to the cold and damp
W
hen my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
T
hat split the night
A
nd touched the sound of silence.
A
nd in the naked light I sawTen thousand people, maybe more.
P
eople talking without speaking,
P
eople hearing without listening,People writing songs that voices never share
A
nd no one dared
D
isturb the sound of silence.

"
Fools," said I, "You do not know.Silence like a cancer grows.
H
ear my words that I might teach you.
T
ake my arms that I might reach you."But my words like silent raindrops fell
A
nd echoed in the wells of silence
A
nd the people bowed and prayed
T
o the neon god they made.
A
nd the sign flashed out its warning
I
n the words that it was forming.
A
nd the sign said,
"
The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
A
nd tenement halls
A
nd whispered in the sounds of silence."
