Authority and religious oppression

How often is religious oppression the source of great upheaval and changes in the world? A person's beliefs are a key part of his/her personality and the motivation that inspires and guides them. Challenging those beliefs brings great distress, and gives them a cause to call negative attention to authoritarian figures.

8 Oct 2009

This morning wasn't too cold. There's a cloud cover outside, and I guess that's why.
I woke up several times this morning, took a shower at 7 and headed off to school on my scooter at 7:45. I reached the classroom in the WB building and turned all the computers on. It saves time in starting class if I do that. Sometimes I arrive first. Other times, someone arrives before me and is doing their homework and other things.

Today was an exam in MGMT 2200. I finished early and headed home. I had an appointment in the CS 615b lab, or so I thought but the person I was supposed to be tutoring didn't show up. I put my name and scheduled times on the whiteboard in case anyone should happen to need my services when I'm there.

The computers in the CS 615b lab have programs and developer software that I don't have access to anywhere else. I want to practice and gain experience so I might develop programs with practical purposes sometime.

The rest of the day has been a running day. I received notice of failure from my math teacher
and I am not doing well in Anatomy.

I canceled a card, because it wore out. I shopped for groceries.I went to surplus with Dad for Summer's computer. I came home and felt just down and worn out.

At surplus someone started up a conversation, but I'm too old and too worn out for connecting with people. Other goals must be sought, not a physical connection.

I am not looking for someone new, some stranger to have a fling with. If I were to have someone, it would be someone I know, whom I am used to, and feel safe with. I will never have that in my life.

Being lonely alone is much better than being lonely inside a relationship with someone who has committed to love me but does not.

People want a product not a person. Some young ladies are regarded as trophies to be sought after and won, while others are sought only after giving up on the trophy girls. Still others are not sought  at all.

I belong in the unsought category. There is value in many things unsought and unadvertised.  If I am unsought, it is not a problem.  God can still find a place for me somewhere in his world where I can be useful.

10/7/2009--Yesterday

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pUkIOcHhu7U]

Many years ago while I was a solo girl with time on my hands, I complained about boot camp and someone told me there were worse things in life than boot camp and i might miss it someday.  I didn't believe it back then, but now looking back, Wow!  H was right.

Yesterday started off with a scooter ride to class, with the cold autumn winds straight off the snow fields blasting across my face. I get comments on my choice of transportation once in a while, but the scooter is the most practical and productive means of getting me from point A to point B right now. I get where I'm going and I don't have to worry about finding a parking space nor getting a ticket nor spending time walking in from the free parking lot.

Margles has to find other means of getting to school since I am not here in the early mornings for her. I will have to try some other option if I am to continue.

In class we covered the dos and don'ts of business e-mails and other communication options. One of the people I contacted for tutoring e-mailed and I set up a time and place to meet her for tutoring. I will be in the CS lab 615b at 11 a.m. tomorrow morning for tutoring if anyone is interested.

I was home by 10 a.m. Mom and Dad had gotten the kids to get themselves ready to go. I took Summer to the doctor for her well child check. Summer is 5'8 1/2 and 214 lbs. The doctor advised her to watch her weight, asked about her moles, answered a call for a patient who is passing away, and left for a dental appointment. Summer received a swine flu vaccination administered as a spray in her nostrils. We left afterward. I took Summer shopping for "thin" foods as a treat for being good at the clinic.

At home, Henry prepared himself for his treat. He has completed 400 pages of his Saxon math. His treat was a trip to the Bean museum and the museum of Paleontology at BYU. I took him and Alethea because the others didn't want to go this time. We stopped at the library, turned in some late books, inquired about a missing CD. We completed our business there, then went to the museums.

At the Bean museum, I looked at the many animals on display. The childrens' playroom was closed for renovation purposes. I sat beside the butterfly display while Alethea got a drink of water and let the kids browse for a time. I thought about how awful it is to take away a life for the purpose of using the body for display. The Bean museum disturbs me somewhat. The paleontology museum doesn't disturb me as much since the artifacts displayed in it had already passed away by natural means and weren't purposely hunted and killed then skinned and mounted.

Upon leaving the paleontology museum, we had only a few minutes to get from Provo to Orem to pick Margles up from school. I took Henry and Alethea home,
